Day 5 - The Great Wall!!!

Okay, we learned today that Beijing is just huge - it is a monstrous city that encompasses half of the northern section of China. We drove for 2 hours to the Great Wall from downtown Beijing and we were still in Beijing. Words cannot express the profound size and length of the Great Wall. It is like one of the pyramids in Egypt that you wonder how they really built it. Bob, Sam, Roberta, Al and Rosalie decided to climb the wall. Nancy and Dwight took the easy road to another tower. The harder route was an uphill 1100 stair climb in 90 degree heat!!! (WHAT WERE WE THINKING?????) We got started and about 1/4 of the way up, Rosalie and I were just wishing that we were on the easy road...but as Mr. Lei said "no pain, no gain" and the reward was great. The view was spectacular. Sam practically ran up the stairs and kept yelling down "come on, come on"...ahhhhhhh the energy of a 4 year old. We had a wonderful day and wrapped it up with some traditional Beijing fare of Peking Duck (not my cup of tea) and dumplings.
