Day 6 - The Forbidden City

The British Royal family has NOTHING on the Chinese emporers...good lord, in their day they built some unbelievable palaces. The Forbidden City is the emporers palace or former residence. It served 12 dynasties, has 9999-1/2 rooms (yes, you read that correctly) and had 30,000 unic servants. The last emporer to serve had 2000 wives who all lived in the Forbidden City...scary thought for some of you guys reading this! It is an awesome place but truly overwhelming. Every thing has meaning and everyone had a "class" level - including the wives. The pictures just don't do it justice and you just cannot see it all in a day, month, year or a lifetime I don't think. Mr. Lei told us to rent the movie "The Last Emporer" and you will get a better feel for this place. We went to the 'dirt market' after we got tired of viewing palace rooms and thrones. This was the local flea market and boy was that a treat...talk about some local fare and interesting people!

We have enjoyed Beijing but we are ready to go to Hefei because it means that it is time to get our boys....
