In our first effort at "organized sports" (and I use that term VERY loosely)
Sam asked to play soccer this year on the school sponsored team.
As far as we are concerned, it is pure entertainment to watch a group of five year olds run amuck on a soccer field. Every child is trying to figure out which way to kick the ball, who actually has the ball, and who might be pushing who down on the field.
He is having a great time playing although he has no clue what he is doing on the field once it is his turn to play and he has even scored goals for the other team! We asked him if he knew how to play soccer and he said, in true Sam fashion, "I can run really fast and I can kick the ball really good - so I know how to play soccer." Sounds like a plan to us...
